Métis Sash: Black “Dark Times” Assomption, 1870-85

Made by Etchiboy. Width: 8”, Length: 142”
This sash is hand-made on a loom using wool. Its origins trace back to circa 1885, the time of the Battle of Batoche.
This sash is a Metis version of the Assomption sash with the black border replacing the red to represent the “Temps Noir” or dark time.
This period started around 1870-1885 when the Métis were considered “traitors” and their to hide their identity for over a hundred years.
